Creative Ways to Reflect on and Shape Your Professional Development Using Metaphors
Do you want to understand who you are a professional and how you can shape a positive way forward that is true to you as an individual? If you do, this workshop will offer a refreshingly different approach to reflection and personally defined goal setting using creative metaphor-based techniques.
Metaphors can be a powerful way to visualise complex and abstract concepts that are increasingly used as a tool for CPD, as well as academic research into professional identity. In this workshop you will identify a metaphor that represents how you currently see yourself as a professional, and a metaphor for how you would like to see yourself in the future. You will get to create a visualisation for each of your chosen metaphors, annotate and reflect on them, as well as identifying practical actions for the future. You can create your visualisations however you want to, for example, collating images from the internet, cutting images from magazines, or drawing using paper and pens provided.
Objectives
- You will gain new insights into your situation, feelings and values.
- You will get to create two visualisations which express important aspects of your professional identity.
- You will identify practical ways you’d like your professional identify to develop and how you’d like to shape it in the future.
