The University of Huddersfield has a long standing reputation of producing high quality, International research output with excellent impact. As an institution, we recognise the importance of looking beyond academia to address global challenges and make a real difference, socially and economically. Why does it matter?

As the majority of research is publicly funded, achieving impact and public good is now viewed as an integral element of the research process. With the Research Excellence Framework (REF) driving forward the impact agenda by placing an increasing emphasis on public engagement and real-world value, institutions are increasingly expected to demonstrate a commitment to transformational research that benefits society at large. The University of Huddersfield recognises the importance of collaboration in impact, both with industry partners and other disciplines, reflected in the work conducted by our Research Centres and Institutes.

How do we support our Academics in achieving Impact?

Research and Enterprise provide a range of services to assist our researchers at all stages of the research process.

We offer a range of training sessions throughout the academic year covering topics such as submitting successful proposals, using social media and impact in research. These can be booked through the Staff Development pages. Our pre-award team can also assist with developing impact statements during the funding application stage.

There are a number of useful resources that have been developed by Research Councils and other institutional bodies which can assist researchers looking to develop skills in impact delivery and public engagement. Please see the list below for relevant links and guidance.
