Paul Riley
Acting Director of Estates & Facilities
As Acting Director of Estates & Facilities, Paul is responsible for the strategic planning, development and operation of the University’s estate. He ensures Huddersfield’s campus provides safe, efficient and sustainable environments that support world-class teaching, research and student experience. Paul leads the delivery of the University’s Estates Strategy and Masterplan, working collaboratively across the institution to ensure the estate aligns with ambitions for growth, net zero carbon and long-term resilience. A Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), Paul holds an MSc in Strategic Project Management and a BSc in Project Management. With over 25 years’ experience in estates, facilities, construction and regeneration, including two decades in higher education, he has led major campus transformation programmes and the delivery of both hard and soft facilities services. Before becoming Acting Director at Huddersfield, Paul held senior estates leadership roles at the University of Huddersfield, the University of Hull and Leeds Beckett University, where he delivered large-scale capital investments, modernisation programmes and carbon-reduction initiatives. He also serves as a Governor at Shipley College, providing strategic oversight of capital development and maintenance within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Heather Kerrick BA MBA CMgr FCMI
Assistant Director of Estates & Facilities
Heather Kerrick Assistant Director, Estates and Facilities Heather is a passionate Facilities Management (FM) professional with a career spanning over 30 years in the industry and has been at University of Huddersfield since 2015. She provides the lead on the full range of FM services including Cleaning Services, Catering, Security, Campus Support Services, Car Parking, Carbon and Energy Management and Sustainability. Before coming into Higher Education, Heather spent her career in healthcare facilities management, employed within both Airedale NHS Trust and laterally Bradford Teaching Hospitals as well as spending a number of years working for private sector companies delivering contracted facilities services into NHS Trusts throughout the country. In 2006 Heather completed her MBA in Facilities Management and became a Chartered Manager and Fellow of Chartered Management Institute in 2017. Since joining the university Heather has worked with her team to ensure that the services they deliver are student focused and efficient. A primary focus has been raising the profile and professionalism of Facilities Services and through increased engagement with key student and staff stakeholders, improving the understanding of customer requirements and shaping how the services that are delivered meet these. Heather is an active member of the Association of Directors of Estates (AUDE) Strategic FM Group and is a Governor at Craven College, near her hometown.
